I was recently in Puerto Rico. It was a Sabbath and I was with a family as the sun went down. I was very impressed with the sunset worship. I feel I am missing something in my own life in this respect. As husband and wife they sang and prayed. I could see that it was their custom. I need to put this into my life where ever I happen to be. I need to be more sensitive to seeing the Sabbath in as well. The Sabbath  is a weekly  anniversary. As husbands and wives we celebrate  our anniversary. It shows how much we care.

When I lived in the SF Bay Area I often went to the home of a large Tongan family for their Friday evening "bringing in the Sabbath" worship. It was a delight with everyone participating, even the youngest children. It is something that we should all do. For awhile a group of us single people met regularly on Friday evening and devised our own opening Sabbath ritual something like Jewish families do. It was a blessing.

Well, I thought more old time SDAers did this than not!!  I'm now single and I bring in the Sabbath with song service, prayer and reading or listening to a sermon. Sometimes I even vocally thank God for a blessing or blessing during the week.  (No I don't talk to myself I talk to God.)   I use to go to my sister's home to bring in the sabbath as a way to encourage her and our nephew to whom she is guardian to turn away from tv, etc.  and worship God at the start of His holy day.  That lasted until she allowed him to play sports . . . well you know what happened there.  I love to bring in the Sabbath . . . even alone.  If you heard me you'd think there was a chorus of at least 3-4.  Bringing in the night of the Sabbath makes it even more special when the day light comes.  I highly recommend it for all . . . including singles.

I recently heard or read something about the importance of rituals in our lives to mark times and seasons that are important and to honor them.  I have decided to begin a Sabbath ritual to mark both the beginning and ending of the Sabbath, something more marked than turning the TV to or from 3ABN.  :0)  That was one good thing about the Messianic community.  They do a lot of things that are just "shtick," doing things because you do them or because Jews do them or whatever, like wearing a kippah.  But welcoming bride Shabbat with prayer and worship is wonderful.
