This morning I went out to take the trash to the road and stayed to pull weeds. I don't need to tell you that for some reason a person doesn't need to feed weeds. They even do well in dry weather!

Another thing, they seem to grow faster than grass and if not dealt with will begin to choke out the lawn. I spent some time, were I could, pulling them out by the roots. Others I could only pull off their top to keep them from spreading. This was because they were so deep in the grass that to get them out by the roots I would have to pull up the ornamental grass.

I don't need to tell you that I thought of the Christian life. Jesus himself told a story about weeds and grass growing together (not exactly but the point is the same). To have a growing Christian life we have to feed it- grow in grace but then we have to continually pull out the weeds that always seem to want to grow back. Reminds me of the texts that says that we must be sober and vigilant.

The battle with weeds is in the growing season. In the winter everything goes into suspension. With the Christian life not so. The Christian life is about 24/7, in season out out of season. I am sure that you have found  as I have that reading the word of God and prayer makes the Christian life prosper. It also tends to retard the growth of the weeds!

Yes, many parallels to Christian life....

Must get the sin out of our lives by the ROOT and for all others nip them in the bud..... way before they get rooted.

Talking about this:

Romans 6:6  Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

Ephesians 4:22  That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

Colossians 3:9  Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

Then since no one lives in a vacumn once the "old man is executed and buried" the "new man" is "put on" along with the "vital transfusion " + John 17:26.
