Some people of other faiths believe that once you are saved you are always saved. This isn't a biblical doctrine, but it is definitely more comforting than wondering if we are saved at all. We believe that Jesus is coming soon and we really want to be ready. But in the past we may have figured that if we were members of the church in good and regular standing our chances of being saved were about as good as they get. But times have changed. Experience has deepened us. We now understand that Jesus is the center of our lives and that in Him we live and move and have our being (see Acts 17:28). We understand that it's our commitment to Him that drives the Christian life (see 2 Corinthians 5:14). Does this understanding diminish the importance of the church? Not really. It simply changes our relationship to it.
