Let's give this a try. The other day I began to read a book entitled, "Why Men Don't Go to Church". It made me realize that there are very real issues that we can discuss on these kinds of subjects. I invite you to get some threads going and we'll see how it goes!  :-)

Not sure if I'm allowed to respond to this or not.  ....   :-P

When my husband first came to the SDA church I was attending, in his mind he thought it would be lots of purple and pink haired ladies there.  To his surprise, he was greeted by men and lots of them in the church of all ages and they really gave him a nice welcome.  Boy was he surprised and continued to come ....  even to this day.

We also have many men ....dedicated men who love their God.

And this is good!!  But, my point being is that those that do not come may have conjured up faulty reasons as to why not....

If they are converted they will likely go to church. If they are not converted, they have chores to do on the weekend like take care of the yard, wash the car, organize their tools and fishing gear etc. and run errands. They have to do those things on Saturday because they have to watch Football on TV all day Sunday.

That is a rather stereotyped case, but I think it may be the actual situation in a lot of families.

Pastor,
Is this the book you are referring to?

There has not really been an answer to the challenge of the topic, so I will try one.
From my observations, while attending a small country church, I can say that men are just as much interested in spirituality as women. But through personal experience I found that church leadership expectations are in conflict with cultural expectations thus creating a spiritual schitzophrenic environment for men which would not be the most enjoyable place to be for a male.
Man are expected to lead in a spiritual environment, yet a society that expects equality (uniformity) and embraces covertly feminist ideeas disrespects this biblical directive and quite often attacts this arrangement. Rather than rock the boat men just slip in the background and quietly express their protest with their feet.

I have not read the book but it seems like there are several possibilities why fewer men than women go to church.

#1 In the NAD the majority of church members are 50 and over. Of those, the significant majority are women because there are so many more women over 50 living than men.

#2 For many of the unconverted, (and perhaps the converted) a main attraction of church is the social aspect. Women tend to be a bit more social.

#3  women tend to be a bit more involved with the children as a rule and if the children are involved in church the mother is often the one that works with that.

#4 the reason that Golden gave in the previous post.

I have noticed in the past 20 some years that the women are far more aggressive (as a rule) when it comes to making  decisions about buying spiritual books. Since I am not around the family otherwise I don't know if this holds true when it comes to other buying decisions and spiritual decisions or not. All I know is that for every one father that purchases spiritual books without the presence  of the mother there are 20 mothers that will purchase the books without the presence  of the father. I don't know if that's because women are the nesters and tend to take on more of a role when it comes to engaging the children in activities and therefore purchasing their physical necessitates or if it is something else.

It does seem to me from my personal experience that women as a rule are much more willing to sit down and discuss spiritual things then men. Men tend to be more involved in football and fixing the car. They seem more distracted to me. Again, this may be a social issue  more than anything. However, women read much more than men too. I don't know if women are truly more spiritually engaged or if they just appear that way.

When the words of the Bible live inside, it is comfortable and desirable to abide in Church, when they are outside then being in Church is uncomfortable.    Be it man or woman, boy or girl .

http://www.audio-bible.com/bible/bible.html     bimodal reading helps ingesting the word into the memory, from the memory it goes to the mind, with the decisions and actions of the life it goes to the heart.

Grateful for Psalms 32 and Titus 2:10 While it is true that God gives the message from Scripture and SOP. The taste I give to others about the message sells it or kills it, I learn to walk it well & cook it well & eat it myself, before I preach it.  Then the SDA message appeals by His righteousness.
