Some people say that obedience is our response to Jesus' love.  But obedience is not something inherent in me.  I of myself cannot produce obedience.  Our obedience is like filthy rags.  It would make a wholly unworthy gift.  Therefore, obedience is not something I give to God but something He gives to me.  Obedience is just as much a gift of God as is forgiveness of sin.  All those whom God has forgiven will want to do His will.  The Christian life is always characterized by obedience.
