A new website, Say No to Creationist Vouchers has joined the fight “to prevent our public money from being used to teach creationism.” It is doing battle by listing private schools that take taxpayer supported vouchers and then teach creationism as a part of their Bible-based lessons. Its database includes more than 160 in Florida (and plenty in Central Florida), as the Florida Citizens for Science blog recently noted. The website, creationistvoucheres.com lists private schools that use Christian-based textbooks and materials, such as those from popular A Beka Book company, which aims to provide schools with materials with a Christian perspective. Florida requires its public schools to teach evolution. The Florida Citizens group asked, “Do we want our tax dollars going to these private schools’ anti-science?” |
